How long with the sleep teaching take?

You should be seeing meaningful progress within 3 days and well on your way by 10 days.

Please note all babies, children and toddlers are individuals and no method or course can guarantee exact timelines or results.

Is this a super strict plan that's hard to follow?

The timing is pretty imperative to help setting your toddler up for successful sleep at night.  Some parents may find the bed times a shift from what they thought was appropriate.  This is not a super strict plan that's hard to follow.  This is parenting skills to figure out what is age appropriate in terms of sleep timing and sleep needs followed up with communication skills and boundaries.

I am worried about letting my toddler cry. Should I be?

This is a completely natural feeling, no parent wants to hear their child cry.  I sure didn't.  While the drive to sleep is biological, the way we sleep is a learned habit.  Currently your baby has a set way of what sleep looks like.  Commonly this looks like falling asleep with help from a bottle/nursing, being rocked or lying beside you.

Whenever you try and change that your baby will protest that they way she falls asleep is changing and doesn’t know what to do.  This will manifest with tears.  Ideally we work on timing and connection before we prepare to separate to minimize discomfort.

But the amount of tears is related to your ability to be consistent in delivering the same message and your baby's temperament.

Your toddler is allowed to WANT you, but they don't necessarily NEED you if you're been calm and communicative about what the boundary is.

First we'll address the timing of sleep and you might solve your issues with that alone.

Second we'll fill up their connection bucket before and during bedtime to help them be seen.

Third, we'll communicate what's going to happen and be a calm, confident leader.

Tears may ensue if your child is particular strong willed but ideally the timing, more attention and positive praise will a way to avoid tears.
